Freezing Blueberries

To Freeze Blueberries
Pack clean, dry fresh blueberries in freezer containers and freeze for winter use- baking, in hot oatmeal, or to drop into pancakes as they cook. (Or maybe you have a better idea- please, let us know!) Frozen blueberries can be used as fresh berries, since they do not lose texture with freezing.

We do NOT recommend you wash your berries before you freeze them.  Just sort (clear out any leaves or debris) and pour the berries into a ziplock type bag (or better, a freezer container) and put in the freezer.  If the berries are wet, or you do wash them when you get home, make sure they set out and dry before freezing. (you will need to pour them out of their container onto a flat surface so they can dry in a single layer- I like my bigger baking dishes for this, with a paper towel in the bottom)   DO NOT put sugar on them.  The berries will keep longer and you can sweeten them as you need them.  When you are ready to use the berries, pour out what you need, let them defrost if you are going to wash them before you use them. (Put the other back in the freezer before they thaw out.)
